Microgranulate from trimmings: Turning a Potentially Hazardous Waste into a Raw Material of the Future

♻️ Green Solutions for Tanneries: Microgranulate from Fałszpina — How Toxic Waste Becomes a Raw Material of the Future

From Toxic Waste to Valuable Raw Material

As part of an innovative R&D project, our tannery is developing a technology to process fałszpina (leather trimmings) into microgranulate — a key ingredient for finishing compounds and leather repair pastes. Thanks to this, waste no longer ends up in landfills — it stays in the production loop.

How It Works

  1. Microgranulation of trimmings – we process leather waste into microgranulate with a particle size of 0.1–0.7 mm.
  2. Integration into production – the microgranulate is added to chemical formulations used in finishing and coating leather.
  3. Application – we produce upholstery, footwear, and military leathers that meet ISO, PN-EN, and PWT standards.

Environmental Benefits

Reduction of hazardous waste — chromium-containing residues are no longer landfilled but recycled.

Circular economy model — the microgranulate returns to the process as a full-value raw material.

Lower carbon footprint — less transport and less energy needed for waste disposal.

Reduced use of virgin materials — lower-grade hides can be upgraded using pastes and finishing systems containing microgranulate, reducing the need for premium raw hides.

No Compromise on Quality

Leathers produced using microgranulate undergo rigorous testing and comply with international standards:

For furniture – resistance to bending, abrasion, and coating adhesion (PN‑EN 13336:2006)

For civilian and military footwear – resistance to water, color migration, breathability, tensile strength, and coating durability (ISO/TR 20879:2007, PWT 04‑01:1998)

The result: durable, high-quality leather with excellent aesthetics — made from lower-grade material, without harming users or the environment.

The Green Future of Tanning Begins Today

Through innovative thinking, we transform waste into high‑value products and help reduce the toxic impact of our industry on the planet.

What once was a problem has become a competitive advantage — and another step toward sustainable development.
